Font - This past weekend, I was set to fly out Friday morning to visit some old friends a few states over. This would be my first time on Southwest ever, on the first flight out - 5:50AM. Despite the extra early morning, I was looking forward to it for months.

Font - That is, until, I somehow slept through five alarms and awoke in a panic at 7:30AM. Oops. In a scramble, I called Southwest and had a human being on the line in 30 seconds. This absolute angel, Karen, helped calm me down and walked me through my options.

Font - Southwest has a courtesy standby if you arrive within 2 hours of your missed flight—of course, I was too tardy for this. At first, it seemed my only other option was a confirmed ticket late that night for around $200 extra.

Font - Half-joking, I said something along the lines of "if I could keep my return flight, I'll just make a road trip out of it and grab a rental car" as it's "only" an 8 hour drive.
  • 07
Font - I listened in disbelief as Karen told me she could cancel my departure on her end, give me a SW flight credit for the entire cost of the itinerary I missed, and keep my return flight as is.

Font - I have never been shown such kindness or grace by any other airline in my life. This situation, which was entirely my own fault, was being handled with such empathy. I couldn't believe it.

Font - After our brief call, I booked my last minute rental, and was soon on the road in a great mood. Southwest just earned a customer for life, and I'm looking forward to putting my flight credit to use soon - on an afternoon flight.

Font - femsci-nerd 2 days ago This type of customer service is always given by Southwest. It's the main domestic airline i fly because of this and no change ticket fees.

Font - GalacticTadpole. 18 hr. ago Years ago I actually missed my flight altogether because I had the date wrong in my head. My mom called me from the airport asking where I was.

Font - I called SWA and told them what happened, and they booked me on the same flight the next day for the difference of the two tickets, which back then was about $50. I was very thankful for the quick service especially when it was my fault.

Font - LookLikeCAFeelLikeMN. 2 days ago Refreshing to see someone happy about Southwest on the Southwest thread! I love Southwest. I've had so many horrible experiences on other carriers that if I can't fly SWA I consider how much I need/want to go. So welcome to the LUV

Font - EnricoMatassaEsq. 21 hr. ago Customer service is how I became a loyal SW flyer for the last decade. I was on another airline going to Vegas for vacation and the best route had a connection in Denver. I chose the earlier of the two so as to maximize my vacation time. Get to Denver and they cancel my

Font - earlier flight and, frankly, were quite snotty about it when I inquired about it. Walked over to SW and asked how much it would cost to get to Vegas before 11 PM local time. They gave me a great price so I went ahead with them and canceled the other ticket. When I got to Vegas I asked the other airline about the best way to get my

Font - checked luggage and they basically said it wasn't their problem and that I should just hang out for a few hours until it showed up. On a long shot I asked SW customer service if there was anything they could do to help me out. They took my bag description and had the bag delivered to my room by 10 AM the following morning. Been flying with them ever since.
